LTI Pro for Brightspace by D2L

Overview

This article provides specific instructions for configuring Zoom’s LTI Pro for Brightspace by D2L.

Note: Please ensure that LTI Pro has been installed and you are signed in to configure LTI Pro.

Configuring LTI Pro on Brightspace by D2L

  1. Copy your LTI URL, LTI Key, and LTI Secret from the LTI Pro Credentials page.

  2. In Brightspace by D2L, go to Admin Tools (⚙️) > External Learning Tools.

  3. Click New Link and configure each section as follows: Properties:

    • Title: Enter title that you would like to use for LTI Pro (this example uses Link2Zoom)
    • URL: Enter LTI URL from Step 1
    • Description (Optional): Enter a description.

    Key/Secret and Custom Parameters

    • Signature:
      • Select Sign messages with key/secret with.
      • Select Link key/secret.
    • Key: Enter the LTI Key from Step 1
    • Secret: Enter the LTI Secret from Step 1

    Security Settings:

    • Select Use link security settings and check all options.
    • Click Add Org Units
      • Add all org units that you would like to make the link available to.
    • Click Save and Close

Note: The external tool Link2Zoom should now be listed under Manage External Learning Tool Links.

Adding Zoom to the Navbar for a Course

  1. Go to Admin Tools (⚙) > Navigation & Themes
  2. Click on Custom Links then click Create Link

  3. Fill out the form as follows:
    • Name: Name of the link as it will appear in the navbar
    • Click Insert Quicklink to add the tool
      • Choose External Learning Tools > click the tool name from the previous setup in the Setup a Tool Provider section
    • Behavior: Select Same window
    • Fill in the rest of the form as desired and click Save

Course Administrators can edit their course navbar, Add Link and look for the custom link in the list.

Adding Zoom to the Navbar for All Courses

  1. Go to Admin Tools (⚙) > Navigation & Themes
  2. Click on your default/custom navbar to edit
  3. Click Add Links
  4. Click Create Custom Link
  5. Fill out the form as follows:
    • Name: Name of the link as it will appear in the navbar
    • Click Insert Quicklink to add the tool
      • Choose External Learning Tools > click the tool name from the previous setup in the Setup a Tool Provider section
    • Behavior: select Same window
    • Fill in the rest of the form as desired and click Create

  6. The new custom link should be automatically selected. If it is not selected, find the custom link from the list and select
  7. Click Add
  8. Reorder the link in the navbar as needed. Click Save and Close

After this, the link to Zoom’s LTI Pro should appear on all courses using the navbar where Zoom was added.
After clicking Zoom on navbar you should see LTI Pro in the course like this:

D2L Calendar

LTI Pro allows meetings scheduled with the LTI to be posted to the D2L Calendar.

LTI Pro requires that D2L Client ID and Secret be entered into the Zoom LTI Pro configuration. The steps to do this are documented here:

  1. Install or Sign In to LTI Pro App and copy the Oauth Redirect URL.

  2. Register an app at D2L
    1. Click the gear icon

    2. Choose Manage Extensibility

    3. Click Oauth2
    4. Click Register an app

  3. Complete the form with the following fields:
    Application Name: Zoom (or any other name you want to name the application)
    Redirect URL: Copy Oauth Redirect URL from Step 1 and paste here
    Scope: core:*:*
    Access Token Lifetime (seconds)*: 3600
    Description: optional
    Check Prompt for user consent
    Check Enable refresh tokens
    Check I accept the Non-Commercial Developer Agreement

  4. Add the D2L Client ID and Client Secret to a new Instance at LTI Pro 3rd party Credentials
    1. In a separate window or tab, go back to the LTI Pro Configuration page.
    2. Click 3rd Party Credentials
    3. Click LTI D2L
    4. Enable Calendar
    5. Click Add Instance and fill in the form as follows:
      LTI D2L Site Domain: Domain of your D2L site
      Developer ID: get Client ID from D2L app created in Step 3
      Developer Key: get Client Secret from D2L app created in Step 3
    6. Click Save. After saving you should see something similar to the image below:

  5. Now when a Zoom meeting is created, updated, or deleted, the D2L Calendar will be updated.
